CHILD PROTECTION
We Provide a safe and secure environment for the children in our care. We aim to support parents/carers in their childcare needs and are flexible when possible. Staff are informed of current and updated child care protection procedures.
The Child Protection Act clearly places a duty on the service provider, to report any suspicions concerning emotional, sexual, physical abuse or neglect, to the Health Board. If a staff member is accused of abuse, the matter will be investigated immediately in collaboration with the relevant external authorities. Confidentiality of clients is protected at all times.
SLEEP SAFE (UNDER 2 YEARS)
Children/babies will be placed in a cot on their own. The child/baby will always be placed with their feet at the foot of the cot. Each child will be issued with their own sheet and blanket which are placed on the cot each time they sleep, and removed when they get up. These are launderedon a regular basis.
All children/babies on the cots are checked every ten minutes and this is recorded on the sleep supervision sheet. Sleeping times are also recorded in the baby log books or teacher log books.
HEALTHY EATING
We encourage healthy practices. We support parents/carers to ensure the child has a healthy, varied and balanced diet. The children participate in a cooking activity each week, where they are encouraged to try foods from different parts of the world.
This introduces different tastes and textures. As well as being heavily involved in the serving of the foods, the children are encouraged to help in the preparation. This encourages a good understanding of hygiene and basic nutrition.
A dental nurse, who specialises in working with young children, vists at least once a year, to talk about food. Mealtimes are a positive and relaxed time. We believe that eating together provides encouraging experiences and is a great way to teach good socail behaviour. We save our sweets and treats for special occasions such as birthday parties or Christmas etc, as well as introducing healthy alternatives.
TOLIET TRAINING
When you feel your child is ready for toilet training, we ask that you begin the training at home. We will follow through and encourage your child whilst in our care. Toilet training is done in a relaxed manner with the full co-operation of the family. We require that the child is AT LEAST two years old and must also be showing signs of readiness. We are more than happy to advise you in this area.
